Dauphin Co-op Celebrates 85 Years
March 7, 2024

Dauphin Co-op has been here helping to build, feed, fuel, and grow our communities for generations!  We've been walking alongside local farmers and producers since 1939, with humble beginnings as a farm supply store - owned by its members and committed to providing quality products at fair prices. We have grown a lot since then. With 8 locations in Dauphin and Ste Rose, we are proud to continue to provide great service and product selection as you have come to expect and we continue to grow to serve you better.

Co-ops are a different kind of business – owned by its members – meaning any profits made go back to its members, not some billionaire in another country.

We are deeply thankful for each of our Members and your loyalty as we celebrate this significant milestone. We thank you for trusting us with your business and allowing us to serve you for generations.

As we celebrate 85 years, we want to hear your story. We asked Members to tell us how Dauphin Co-op has touched their life, their family's lives, and their community. Thank you to everyone that shared YOUR Co-op story and what Membership means to you and your community. We will be sharing the stories throughout the year.

Co-op Stories:

"When we got married in 1981, we also started building our first house on our farm. Waayyyyy back then, Dauphin Co-op had a Co-op Building Supply Store where McMunn & Yates is now I believe. We had two blueprint choices of type of house to build, I picked the smaller one so I wouldn't have to spend my entire life cleaning it, and my husband picked the bigger one. We went with the bigger one (and yes, I've been cleaning it all my life!) But it was still the better choice because now, I still don't have enough room for everything! And so the building began. They supplied us with everything we needed. Then we switched to Co-op Fuel in the 80's as well. They've been serving us, bringing fuel to the ranch for all our farming needs. We deal with Co-op Grocery almost every week and the Co-op Cardlock is a very convenient way to get gassed up when we're in town. We're just waiting till they get the credit card system set up in Dauphin like in Ste. Rose. Last year, we finally had a chance to renovate the outside of our house. And guess where we got the siding, insulation, windows and doors from? The current Co-op building center! Full circle! And the young lady that works the counter there used to be a hired hand on our ranch some years ago! So many years that Co-op has been a big part of our lives, and will continue to be. Always friendly employees, in all departments, in all stores too. Oh, and did I mention the equity? When my husband turned 70, we were surprised with a nice big equity cheque! We'd forgotten that we were building that equity all those years! Yes, you young people out there, that's a pretty great thing when you retire! How many businesses offer you that?"  Christine Pascal, pictured below after her 85-Second Shopping Spree.

"Congrats on 85 years of providing families with the best grocery store in Dauphin!! In the 20+ years that I have been shopping for groceries in Dauphin, my most favorite part will always be and continue to be the staff that work there. There is always a friendly face to greet you when you walk in, staff who are dedicated to making sure you have everything you need or to answer questions that you have. It really makes you feel like you are a friend walking into a home like atmosphere. I have NEVER had a bad experience with any staff that has ever worked at this store. I've shopped at other grocery stores in Dauphin, but none have the level of committed staff, variety of foods, or clean environment that the Dauphin Co-op store has. Love this store! Our membership is very important to us because Co-op is so supportive in the community. With our membership we feel like we're part of that as well  me and my family are part of that supportive community."  Paulette Halabisky, pictured below with Stephen Bunka, Building Division Manager and Courtney Seitter Marketing / Community Relations.
